Flow State

The psychologists Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and Jeanne Nakamura used the term to describe a feeling where, under the right conditions, you become fully immersed in whatever you are doing.

“There’s this focus that, once it becomes intense, leads to a sense of ecstasy, a sense of clarity: you know exactly what you want to do from one moment to the other; you get immediate feedback.”

David's muse might have lived in such a flow state. The music we created together often began with his improvisations.  He would usually begin playing quite simply, almost ordinary as he found his way in.  What I could never predict but came to expect was how and when the ordinary would become extraordinary. The experience for me became one of bearing witness to an-other worldly grace.  This was David's gift with music.

The music of “Laughing At The Moon”  was recorded during one of these sessions where an experience ecstasy and clarity was informing what came next. It was truly a gift to us and is with an enduring gratitude that we offer the video version to you in the link below.
